Hummus Recipe

This Easy Hummus Recipe is one of the most common Mediterranean dips that is not only easy to make, but one of the most versatile too!

You can add all kinds of spices, vegetables, and herbs to create new flavors from the traditional recipe.

That is what makes cooking so much fun!  You don't have to be intimidated if you have never made hummus at home before because you only need a few ingredients and about 10 minutes to bring it all together.

The main ingredient you need to make in this classic dip other than garbanzo beans, is tahini or sesame paste. This gives hummus that distinctive flavor along with the garlic and lemon. Check out other sauces here

This recipe makes a large batch, so if you are having friends or family over it should be plenty for the evening or if you want prep for the week.  Here is the recipe for traditional hummus, I hope you enjoy!

Hummus

Hummus

  • 2 cans garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 3 small garlic cloves
  • 4 tbsp tahini
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 lemon juiced
  • 1 salt to taste

How to make Hummus

  1. Place garlic in a food processor and puree for 15 seconds. Then add drained and rinsed garbanzo beans with tahini. Puree for 20 seconds and then while the processor is still running start adding the water and olive oil.

Alternating a little of water and then a little of the olive oil until you get the desired consistency you want (traditional hummus is a little on thicker side while I like to add a little water to mine to make it a little more creamy and thinner.  Once the beans have a really smooth consistency you can add the lemon juice.

Stop to scrape the sides of the processor and finish with salt, and pepper.  Place in a bowl and drizzle with a little extra olive oil. Place on a platter with your favorite pita chips, raw vegetables, or crackers. Serve and enjoy!
